Global Pacific Solutions 2025 theme
It is the moana that binds us, it is the whenua that defines us.
The GPS theme for 2025 reflects the unique and historical relationship between tangata whenua and tagata Pasifika. It speaks to the interconnectedness of Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa and to how the deep-rooted ties to our own indigenous lands shape our cultural identity, worldview and sense of wellbeing.
As tagata Pasifika living in Aotearoa, we acknowledge tangata whenua as indigenous to Aotearoa. Nurturing our cultural identity within the context of life in Aotearoa is vital to Pasifika wellbeing.
- Tangata whenua – Indigenous people of Aotearoa
- Tagata Pasifika – Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Island regions of Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia
- Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa – Pacific Ocean

Background to GPS
Le Va’s national Global Pacific Solutions (GPS) conferences are an effective platform to showcase innovative and integrated wellbeing solutions that meet the needs of Pasifika families. The last GPS conference, a national youth-led event previously named ‘Growing Pasifika Solutions’, was held in 2016 with more than 500 people in attendance.
The 2021 GPS Satellite Seminars or sector forums, were Le Va’s response to overwhelming feedback from national fono that regional mental health and addiction cross-sector integrated forums were also required. Le Va committed to facilitating these sector forums, linking national initiatives to the regions and co-designing content to support local solutions.
