The ‘Mātua project’ led by Dot Greenfield from Vaka Tautua, builds awareness among Samoan Mātua of the issues being faced by Pacific communities relating to suicide and other challenging issues, such as mental health or intergenerational dynamics. The project is funded through Le Va’s FLO community fund. 

Suicide is an issue of genuine public concern, and the Pasifika media perform an important role informing and educating communities about this complex issue.

Last week I joined my Le Va colleagues Esther Faitala and Ben Tameifuna in the Hutt Valley to deliver back-to-back Engaging Pasifika programmes.

Effective treatment for addiction works when we have a capable and competent workforce, with the right tools and resources that can meet the needs of Pasifika families. Le Va’s work contributes to addiction workforce development in a number of ways. Here’s our key results for July 2014 – June 2015.
