Addressing disparities by growing the Pacific public health workforce
Le Va was recently invited to join a sector reference group contributing to the refresh of the Ministry of Health’s flagship public health plan Te Uru Kahikatea: the Public Health workforce Development Plan (TUK). The plan provides a national strategic approach to public health workforce development from 2007 to 2016.
2015/2016 Futures that work results
We’ve awarded 340 Pasifika Mental Health and Addiction Scholarships since 2009 and we are currently supporting a 2016 cohort of 47 people as part of the Futures that work programme. The results are also in for our 2015 recipients – with a 100% pass rate!
2016 Le Tautua Matua Mana Moana: results
This year, Le Va offered the Le Tautua Matau Mana Moana (Le Tautua M3) Programme to our most senior leaders from the Pasifika mental health and addictions sector. The programme aimed to accelerate the leadership journey of Pasifika leaders, organisations and communities through the delivery of a Pasifika-centred leadership programme providing the skills, knowledge and tools for transformation.
Faiva Ora progress
Imagine a world where Pasifika people with disabilities have access to all the services they need. A world without language or cultural barriers, and where Pasifika people with disabilities can live the life they want the way they want. Le Va is working with disability support services, communities and others to develop such a world, right here in New Zealand.
FLO: Pasifika for Life 2015/2016
Le Va’s FLO: Pasifika for Life suicide prevention programme is a strength-based approach, guided by policy, research and input from our communities. Given the complexity associated with reducing the risk factors that contribute to suicide and increasing protective factors, the FLO programme takes a multi-level approach – developing tools, new and innovating training and contemporary resources to prevent suicide in communities.
FLO Talanoa suicide prevention education programme for Pasifika
FLO Talanoa is Le Va’s suicide prevention training programme, developed to be led and delivered by and to our own communities. It is a call to action, designed for sustainability and aligned with Pasifika values of love, respect and reciprocity.
